During this year’s Almedalen Week, goGotland and Coop Gotland are launching a joint initiative to ensure that all food waste is managed and converted into valuable resources. Through the so-called Coop Gotland method, a local cycle is created in which food waste is turned into energy, nutrients, and new products, right here on Gotland.
Under this initiative, food waste from participating venues is sorted and processed on-site, and then transported to Coop Gotland. There, the food waste is converted into products such as plant fertilizer, biogas, and ethanol.
“For many years, we’ve seen the amount of food waste generated at various events, especially during Almedalsveckan. It’s long felt like something we wanted to do more about. That’s why it feels especially meaningful that we can now, together with Coop Gotland, take a concrete step and actually make a real difference. When a salad becomes plant fertilizer and a leftover sandwich becomes alcohol, you realize that even a small action can lead to something big—nothing goes to waste, everything gets a new life, and it’s all done locally here on the island,” says Emelie Ahlin, CEO of goGotland.
In the first phase, the initiative will cover five of our largest venues, with the goal of subsequently expanding the concept to all venues as well as to other events outside of Almedalsveckan.
“This is a clear example of how we can work together to create value from something that would otherwise go to waste. By managing food waste locally on Gotland, we can convert it into energy, nutrients, and new resources, while also contributing to more sustainable development,”says Markus Wahlgren of Coop Gotland.
This initiative is a step toward a more sustainable Almedalen Week and demonstrates how collaboration among local stakeholders can lead to concrete solutions to global challenges.
Gotland is likely Sweden’s best conference destination—and one of the most unique in the world. Here, you’ll gather in settings that have been the site of conversations, trade, and decision-making for over a thousand years. Beyond Gotland’s fascinating cultural heritage lie the sea, the beaches, the limestone, and the open landscape. Here, it’s easy to breathe and easy to think outside the box. And—the food we offer is an experience in itself, locally sourced and authentic.
There are places where you can host a conference. And then there are places where you experience it. Gotland is such a place—you don’t just change your surroundings; you change your perspective.
For us, a successful conference is more than just content and a schedule; it’s space for thoughts and conversation. Few things beat the stillness of a breeze over open fields or the drama of limestone cliffs against an unbroken horizon. In Gotland’s natural surroundings, the distances between us shrink.
We serve food that is just as authentic. The ingredients have been grown, caught, or processed here—prepared by people who care, no fuss, no frills. The time spent around the tables is more than a break; it’s a space for discussion that leads to a stronger sense of community and fresh ideas. We believe that when the food is authentic, so are the conversations.
A conference here isn’t just a conference in a cultural-historical setting—you step right into Gotland’s heritage. Walks along the ring wall, meetings under century-old arches, and dinners in spaces where you can smell and touch history. Our cultural heritage doesn’t stand still; it lives on as part of everyday life—come and step into settings that bring to life memories impossible to recreate anywhere else.
Here, everything is close by: the sea, history, food—and each other. Gotland isn’t just a place for meetings; it’s a place where people meet.
For us, a conference is a creative space where titles and traditional roles are irrelevant. Here, everyone is seen, heard, and valued in a supportive environment with a strong sense of community. In a safe environment, ideas are shared, and questions are asked that often open up new perspectives and create the conditions for success. By success, we mean an investment in secure relationships that last long after the conference ends. For some, this is certainly the case—a strong organization is built by people who feel a sense of purpose and commitment. In short, they work smarter, not harder. For us, a conference is a gathering that creates opportunities.
And this is where we start to think differently.
Think conference. Think again. That’s what we usually do. Almost always, we end up in uncharted territory that opens up new perspectives on the concept of a “conference.”
For example—what happens when you need to tap into an inner palette where new shades and colors emerge? A bit challenging, a lot of fun: we call this activity “The Artist.”
Artistic talent and the group’s ability to collaborate are put to the test. Amid easels, brushes, and paints, your team gains concrete tools to strengthen cohesion.
When we think of a conference, we see an opportunity to ask questions that, sometimes, yield unexpected answers. Always fostering community and a sense of security. As in our activity “Night at the Museum.”
When the doors close for the day, a magical, mysterious world full of surprising experiences opens up. Solve riddles together among the museum’s hidden treasures—a guaranteed memorable experience for your team to celebrate a success or write new chapters. A Night at the Museum sheds new light on how a conference can strengthen team spirit, boost creativity, improve communication, and build empathy.
When we think of conferences, we look beyond PowerPoints and flipcharts. We’re out cycling. Literally. As inthe “Gotland Bike Battle”activity. Mix a cocktail of adrenaline and fresh air in a uniquely varied natural setting, and you have a magical conference activity.
Grab the handlebars, the map, and the mission booklet to work together to untangle not only the riddles, but also your team’s (potential) collaboration knots.
Teamwork and navigation skills are put to the test along the way, with practical tasks and a snack capturing the flavors of Gotland included before the finish line.
Speaking of culinary experiences—what stimulates creative thinking and good conversation more than good food? We believe food offers a natural meeting place that sparks conversation and strengthens relationships. On our menu is“Matsafari”in the heritage city of Visby and its surroundings.
Four food stations, a treasure hunt, and plenty of opportunities to connect with colleagues. On the “Food Safari,” you’ll meet local chefs and sample dishes rooted in Gotland’s soil. Guess the ingredients, ponder questions about local cuisine, and enhance the dining experience through knowledge of Gotland’s food culture. This is a culinary gathering designed to talk about something other than work, which brings the group closer together.
Let’s challenge our mouths and throats a little more. Join “Körslaget” for a slightly different conference activity. Sing under the guidance of a professional choir director and experience how the sense of belonging and community grows. Singing breaks down social barriers and serves as a test of the group’s ability to solve a shared task.
We can arrange “Körslaget” wherever you like, in a medieval church ruin or in a meadow on Gotland. Don’t forget—memories are precious! That’s why we’ll film the session for you to revisit whenever the mood strikes.
goGotland AB announced today that Filip Adamo is joining the team as the new Creative Producer. This recruitment is a strategic step in the company's continued efforts to strengthen the creative level of its experiences and develop goGotland's position as one of Gotland's most dynamic players in events, meetings, and destination events.
Filip Adamo will play a key role in the company's continued work to create innovative and memorable concepts for customers at local, national, and international levels. With a strong background in creative production and experience design, he will help take goGotland's offering to the next level—with a focus on quality, storytelling, and execution.
Filip begins his assignment as a consultant for goGotland while continuing his employment as Program Manager at Wisby Strand and producer for the concert series Krusmyntanätter.
"Using my creativity and experience to develop Gotland as a meeting place and destination is a passion of mine. A living island all year round, it said on the boat when we moved here in 2023. No sooner said than done, I thought. Being given the opportunity to join the team at goGotland alongside my existing job at Wisby Strand as program manager and producer for Krusmyntanätter feels like a really good trinity with potential synergies and opportunities. I am really looking forward to bringing Visby's ruins to life with their enormous potential for public events. Which ruin shall we start with?" says Filip Adamo, new Creative Producer at goGotland AB.
"We are incredibly happy to welcome Filip to the goGotland family. His creative drive, sense of the big picture, and experience in developing powerful experiences make him the perfect fit for our team. Filip will play an important role in our ongoing creative work to create events that engage, inspire, and strengthen Gotland as a year-round destination," says Emelie Ahlin, CEO of goGotland AB.
The recruitment represents another step in the company's long-term commitment to creative development, sustainable experiences, and new business opportunities—on Gotland and, in the long term, at other destinations as well.
As we sum up another eventful year at goGotland , we would like to highlight this year's motto: "The courage to grow together selflessly." For us, courage does not always mean daring to do big things—sometimes courage can be a small step in the right direction. Daring to be curious. Daring to change. And daring to do it selflessly together.
In 2025, we have experienced the power of courage when combined with consideration, creativity, and collaboration. Together with guests, friends, and colleagues, we have created encounters that have touched, engaged, and inspired—encounters that feel real and that last.
2025 has been a year in which we have taken major steps forward. We have continued to build our business on the essence of goGotland – authentic experiences, presence, and attention to every detail. Despite a constantly changing world around us, we stand firm thanks to our strong relationships and our shared drive.
And what a year it turned out to be:
During Almedalen Week, we organized over 768 seminars and networking events across 32 venues throughout Visby —a record-breaking year that truly demonstrated what happens when logistics, creativity, and teamwork come together in perfect harmony. We also had the honor of being part of a large-scale event with over 600 guests, a production that put our ability to collaborate and our reliability to the test in the very best way.
Over the past year, we have welcomed more than 150 conference groups, each with their own unique goals, needs, and dreams—and every group has received an experience tailored just for them. We have also had the privilege of helping to create 24 amazing wedding stories, where every love story has become a unique and unforgettable day. We are also incredibly proud to have had the honor of being part of this year’s Lucia Morning, produced by SVT —three magical locations in Visby, prime-time broadcast, and a winter-dark, cozy Visby that seems to have gone straight into the hearts of the Swedish people.
We have organized public events with over 5,000 visitors, meetings that have created joy and energy and filled Visby with a pulse that has lingered long after the events have ended.
Perhaps most importantly, we have collaborated with over 200 partners and suppliers —people we proudly call our friends and our extended team. Without them, none of this would have been possible.
Glimpses from the year – small moments and big productions
2025 has offered assignments in every conceivable form – from the most private to the truly extensive. We have transformed ruins, warehouses, and historic environments into soulful places where living stories have come into their own. We have created state-of-the-art seminar spaces during Almedalsveckan, where thousands of participants have taken part in conversations that shape our future.
We have produced large-scale mingle events in record time, where the team's speed, creativity, and sense of quality have been tested, and we have delivered without compromising on a single detail. We have built event environments where companies meet, celebrate, learn, and grow together, and we have designed public events that have attracted both Gotland residents and visitors from all over the world.
It is precisely this breadth that makes our work so unique and meaningful—being able to create many different types of experiences. Always with high ambitions and sincere consideration, at every step of the process.
Selflessly together as a compass
Last year's motto , "Selflessly together," has guided us through 2025 as a reminder of what is most important. As we look ahead, we see very clearly that we want to continue living by this motto beyond 2026.
In a world where everything moves quickly—sometimes too quickly—selfless cooperation is more important than ever. Giving without demanding anything in return. Helping each other grow. Standing strong together when the going gets tough and sharing the joy when things are going well. We have seen time and time again that when we act selflessly together, we achieve our best results.
That is also why we continue to let this motto be our compass.
The courage to grow together – and to do so selflessly.
Towards a new year – with Pippi on my shoulder and courage in my heart
As we wrap up the year and enter a long-awaited period of rest, we are reminded of the playfulness, courage, and imagination that Pippi Longstocking represents. Her words still carry us:
"I've never tried that, so I'm sure I can do it!"
With that attitude—and with each other—we will take on 2026.
We will continue to grow. We will continue to dare. And we will continue to create magic together.
To our guests, friends, and colleagues: Thank you very much for your trust and cooperation throughout the year. You make our work meaningful and incredibly enjoyable.
Now allow yourself to relax – and connect with the present. We hope to see you in 2026, when we can create memories of the future together.

Gotland is a love affair that you feel in your stomach and in your heart 365 days of the year. We know, we live here and we want to share. Let us offer you a Gotland waiting to surprise and touch.
Every season has its own charm, flavor, scent and light. Gotland is never the same twice. Definitely not 365 times.
Autumn is flavors and tranquility. Walk along a cliff edge, cycle along a forest edge, light a fire - take time to talk and reflect.
Winter, when the sea turns blue and steel gray and the beaches are lonely with only your footprints in the sand. When the rauks rise from frost and fog, we set the table for mulled wine in S:ta Karin church ruin and Christmas dinner in Klosterlängan.
Spring comes with Gotland's softest side - the light, flowers, warmth and hope. All that beauty, without the stress. Perfect for a kick-off with business planning
Summer with chalk-white beaches and crystal clear water and, it seems, endlessly long days. The evenings never end. We can sew together a kayaking adventure with a world-class culinary experience.
Okay, let's summarize:
- Nature that gives perspective
- Tastes that stay
- The sea that never looks the same
- Smokes with stories from ancient times
- Sun that warms more than your skin
- A calm for the whole body
We listen to your wishes, let us make the conference, wedding or any other activity your experience. Come when you want, come back often.
Yes, we listen to understand; only then can we put your ideas into words that lead to action. Through attentiveness and open dialogue, we can create venues that are tailored just for you. We never dictate, but we have an exceptional sense of place. Trust and respect, shared responsibility, and collaboration are our guiding principles for delivering the highest possible value.
Together with our partners, we develop comprehensive solutions that fit your needs— corporate events, conferences, and weddings—which can take place in a medieval church ruin or to the sound of lapping waves. We’ll set up a yoga mat just as easily as we’d provide a mountain bike, and we’ll organize a culinary safari if that’s what you’re in the mood for.
Welcome to Gotland, let us listen and create your memories together. We can make your time here an unforgettable and unique experience.
Magic can be a lot. Or a little. Definitely different, sometimes different. Always genuine, saying it again, always genuine.
We believe in creating moments that touch - only then does it become real and the experience in the meeting becomes genuine. This is our foundation for building trust and presence in meetings that strengthen and develop individuals and organizations. We believe that presence is friends with magic, we strive to enable meetings where laughter and eye contact occur.
It's in the walls here in the office and we take it with us out into nature, in conversations with customers and in preparations with partners. Not a PowerPoint, a reality where we meet people.
We think like this: The magic of encounters happens when we can get past promises (which no one knows if they are real or not in a digitally AI-manipulated world) to an authentic experience. Gotland is our arena and it is genuine, we have the knowledge and passion to bring people together in experiences in a unique environment.
That's what we want to deliver, the magical encounter.
Welcome to Gotland, let's make the meeting a real experience.
Welcome to the Gotland Bike Battle cycling adventure! A wonderful group strengthening experience for companies and organizations. Perfect team building in a corporate event or as a kick-off. In teams, participants will cycle to different locations where both riddles and practical assignments related to Gotland's history and nature await.
You will be provided with a bike, a map and a mission booklet. The concept of being out and about on a bike takes on a new meaning in this fun activity. You will experience the magical environment, check out the culture and learn about Gotland's history. Teamwork, orientation and knowledge are important ingredients to be a winner.
Our activity leaders will meet you at the bike rental, or other suitable place according to your wishes. Here you will be divided into teams, given a map and competition material and introduced before we let the participants go.
To make it all the way to victory, you need a lot of refueling in the depots. We serve a delicious and steady snack that gives you the conditions to make it all the way to the finish.
As an event agency, we are proud to be able to offer Gotland's most experienced activity leaders who will receive your group at the stage in Almedalen. This is where the adventure begins! Among alleys and fog-shrouded ruins, secret meeting places await exciting adventures.
The event offers the opportunity for adventure as well as games and dice. Good team building or a kick off, during the event you compete in teams. Solve puzzles and tasks that take you to different places. Between passes along cobbled alleys, you gather in Visby's beautiful ruins where medieval-clad activity leaders challenge you to compete against the other teams.
This is a different and exciting way to explore medieval Visby, compete on medieval terms and strengthen your company in teamwork!
Examples of competition stations
The candle lighting - teams must light a chandelier at the bottom of a ruin from a great height.
The island game - a tile game where the aim is to tactically exclude the other teams from the playing field.
The merchant - teams meet a medieval merchant and answer questions from the past.
The diving board - free the man stuck in the diving board.
