In the center of town opposite Gotland's Brewery, next to Stora Torget, is this beautiful medieval church ruin. Once the parish church of the Gotlanders, today we can arrange weddings and conferences. Sankt Lars is impressive with its high arches and largely roofed - well suited for a company dinner or a nice mingle.
If you hear something strange in the ruin, it could be the ghost of a sad monk. Legend has it that
he is looking for hidden treasure. A boy who in his teens claims to have seen this ghost monk
now works as a ghost exorcist.
The story behind the ghost monk comes from a story from the summer of 1859. A female
acquaintance of the Gotland writer Carl Johan Bergman was shown the hiding place of the ruin treasure
in her dream. Bergman and the woman went in search of the treasure, but when he returned a few
days later, the hiding place was empty. The woman claimed she had found nothing - but
is said to have redecorated her house shortly afterwards.
