Sankt Göran is a magnificent church ruin located just outside Visby's ring wall in beautiful lush surroundings above Visby Lasarett, appropriately enough. Sankt Göran used to be a church and a hospital for lepers, and was built outside the ring wall to protect the townspeople from infection. Today, it is an open and bright space with the possibility to use the surrounding area for events. Perfect for corporate events, or those who want larger private events, mingling, weddings or team building.
The ruin is named after the brave knight Goran who saved the princess from the dragon
(you've probably heard that story). After driving a spear through the dragon's neck, Goran
asked the princess to bring the dragon into the city. When Goran got the people to pledge their faith to God, he
killed the dragon. St. George was later beheaded as a Christian martyr.
